The Town of Waxhaw leadership conducted a community wide resident survey in the Fall of 2022 with the support of a third party consultant, ETC. The survey was mailed to every household and asks residents to rate their satisfaction with the major services provided by the Town of Waxhaw.

The responses will aid in Waxhaw’s long-range planning and budget decisions. Receiving feedback was an important part of our efforts to evaluate and improve the level of service and services provided to our residents.

How did you get my address?

I received your survey, and while I own the property that it was sent to, I don’t live there. What should I do?

What is the purpose of requesting the person who most recently had a birthday complete the survey?

We have randomly selected households within our jurisdiction to receive the survey. We would also like to choose in an unbiased way a person within each household to complete the survey. This way we ensure the results are representative of our community as a whole. While it may seem a bit strange, using the “birthday method” is a simple way to select an adult from within each household without permitting bias in our results.

I doubt that you are interested in my opinion, since I rarely leave my [nursing] home. Should I really complete the survey?

If I filled out the survey when I first received it, should I fill it out again now that I have received a second copy?

Was the survey sent to all residents?

How do you ensure the results are representative of the town?

What will be done with the results?

Why is “Hispanic” separate from “Race”?

How does 750 completed surveys get accurate results for a large City?

Retrieving 750 completed surveys will give us a margin of error of +/-3.5% at the 95% level of confidence. What this means is that if we were to conduct the same survey 100 times, we would get the same results 95 out of the 100 times, with a margin of error of + or – 3.5% of the result. This is a very typical practice when it comes to scientific statistically valid surveys. Because the sample is randomly selected; we are ensuring the data represents the Census demographics and we geocode our sample to ensure that there is representation across the town.
