The Waxhaw Police Explorers meet every Wednesday from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at the Waxhaw Police Department. For more information, please contact WPD at (704) 843-0353.

About the Program

The Waxhaw Police Explorer and Cadet Program, established in December 2004, is made up of young adults from 12 to 20 years of age. These young adults, who are interested in learning about enforcement and leadership, dedicate their time under the advisement of Lieutenant B. L. Zill and Officer Perez.

After attending weekly meetings, that consist of patrol techniques, traffic control, and defensive tactics, the Explorers may ride along with with a Waxhaw police officer to observe the role of a law enforcement officer.

During their training, the Waxhaw Police Explorers are able to assist in crowd control, traffic control and security at Waxhaw town special events or in other special cases.

Program Benefits

These young adults are dedicated to the mission and goals of the Waxhaw Police Department. Through this program they will learn about team work, personal safety, self respect and helping others.

Applications

The Waxhaw Police Department accepts Explorer Applications from students 12 to 20 years of age. Interested applicants must have parental consent if under 18 years of age and must be a resident of Union County. A one-time application fee of $90 pays for uniforms and necessary equipment for the program.
